Through his ink paintings, Chen Lyusheng has always been attempting to bring out the core values of the literati painting tradition and apply them to contemporary practice.
He has been devoting himself to maintaining the Chinese characteristics of traditional literati paintings in the world of cultural diversity. In so doing, he draws landscape, plum blossom, bamboo, narcissus and other common themes in the style of traditional literati paintings. He has also explored new contents such as winter jasmine to convey the sense of the literati. Through his works, he tries to present a style of contemporary literati paintings, showing a possibility in the impossibility of developing the traditional art.
This is exactly in line with what Confucius advocated, “a gentleman should always put his basic principles first.”
