celebrating: there’s more to life than just work
The ‘celebrating’ section is dedicated to local traditions, in particular festivities in rural Liechtenstein from the 19th to the 21st century. Shared celebrations are essential when it comes to forging a sense of identity. Feast days give the year a structure and create a sense of community. The key exhibit – a cowshed wall covered with wooden hearts traditionally used to decorate cattle being brought down from the high pastures at the end of summer – is itself closely linked to the theme of celebrating, the manifest forms of which are showcased in the different rooms: the end of the work-ing day; leisure time and clubs; festivities throughout the year; holidays and feast days; secular and religious customs; the course of a person’s life; rural warmth and friendliness; and state celebrations.
